Ōmori Japanese Candle Maker is the only traditional Japanese candle workshop in Ehime Prefecture. For six generations, the family has preserved a centuries-old candle-making technique in which wax made from the fruit of the haze tree is melted over charcoal and carefully applied by hand around a wick, layer by layer.
Uchiko's handmade candles are distinguished by their natural olive-green hue and the beautiful ring pattern revealed in their cross-section, resembling the growth rings of a tree. Free from dyes and decorative designs, they embody a simple and timeless beauty rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Their large, steady flame burns brightly with a warm, gentle glow and produces very little dripping wax. Today, these candles are enjoyed not only for traditional occasions but also as elegant interior decorations and for creating a special atmosphere around the dining table.
Depending on the time of day, visitors may be able to watch the candle-making process through a viewing window. The shop also offers a variety of handcrafted candles, candle stands, and other unique souvenirs for purchase.
Experience the warm glow of a traditional Japanese candle and take home a piece of Uchiko's living heritage.
