















Visit a hidden mountain village named Oda, located at the east side of Uchiko Town, and have a natural dye experience at 100 old Japanese style house.
In Oda, chestnuts are produced from a long time ago.
An English speaking local guide takes you to a short walk to show you around the village includes to see some chestnuts trees.
The chestnut burrs dye experience will be held at a traditional houses nearly 100 years old.
A local vegetable dying group named "Someya Tetoha" will teach you how to dye with chestnuts burrs. You can leave some marks to make it more original to you.

Take a walk around the Oda village with a local guide.
You will see a small chestnut field and some old houses while the guide tells you the story of the Oda village.
You may skip this walk, but the fee will stay the same.

The former Ninomiya residence is an old wooden house established as the Ninomiya sawmill in Showa 17 (1942). It is a building with plenty of elaborately designed wood and glass plates, and was designated as a "Registered Tangible Cultural Property" in October 2021.
You get to do the workshop in the backyard of Ninomiya residence.

You get to dye a cotton cloth (58cm x 58cm).
Choose between wood sticks or elastic strap to marks your cloth. The place you put those parts will remain white.

Dye the cloth with a solution made by boiling chestnut burrs.
What color will it be?

Enjoy chatting with lecturers and guide during the workshop.
The ladies don't speak English, but their hospitality will tell you are welcomed.

The cloth can be used for kitchen cloth, big handkerchief, mini scarf and more!

After the dyeing workshop, the guide will take you a short walk by the river to the meeting spot. Now you have circled the village.
