Natural dye experience in a traditional house

A local guide will take you on a local bus and a short walk in Oda district, a small mountain village, located at the east side of Uchiko Town.

First stop of the short walk is chestnuts trees. Chestnuts are produced here in Oda from a long time ago. You can see how the Japanese chestnuts grow and maybe pick up some burrs for a picture later on.

Then walk through an old shopping street of Oda, you will see traditional houses nearly 100 years old.

The main event of this tour is the vegetable dyeing workshop.
A local vegetable dying community named "Someya Tetoha" will teach you how to dye a handkerchief with chestnuts burrs. You can leave some marks to make it more original to you. Enjoy communicating with locals.

Then walk to a local’s favorite restaurant and have Tarai Udon, the specialty of Oda district for lunch.

You may get an option to visit Odamiyama valley with extra fee. Please ask.

Oda’s specialty "Tarai Udon"

"Tarai Udon" is Udon noodles served in “Tarai”, a wooden tub.

The dipping sauce for Udon noodles uses broth from dried sardines, shiitake mushrooms, and soybeans. And the noodle are soft not like Sanuki Udon in Kagawa prefecture.

There is some outside seating right next to a river as well as regular tables inside the restaurant. It would be nice to have your meal with a cool breath and a beautiful view.
