Enjoy the special event of being dressed in traditional Japanese bridal/groom garments and get commemorative photos taken in historic Uchiko via “HANAYOME”. This special program is open to you whether you are a new bride and groom, LGBT couple, a couple celebrating an anniversary, or even as a single person who wants to try this unique experience!
This includes one free consultation prior to the photoshoot to pick out your materials with veteran professionals. You will choose and rent undergarments, a full-colour bridal kimono (iro-uchikake) or formal groom outfit (haori and hakama), and accessories. On the day of the photoshoot a professional will do your hair and makeup, you will be dressed in your chosen kimono, and then you will have a professional photographer for 30 minutes to 1 hour to take photos around the scenic Uchiko historical district nearby. Five or thirty of your photos will be sent to you digitally afterwards, with one additional instant photo (also called a polaroid) taken on the same day which you can take home with you at the end of the shoot.
Other than being a very traditional Japanese experience which you can enjoy even in modern Japan, this is also a great way to commemorate this period of your life, experience something even most tourists do not get a chance to do, and spend some time with locals and support their businesses.
A portion of the proceeds for this experience goes towards the Township Preservation Society, which helps Uchiko maintain and treasure their traditions, so they can continue to share them with everyone!
Please note that making a reservation at least a month prior is extremely important, as if you do not, we may not be able to accommodate your needs.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- We are an LGBT and foreigner-friendly group! Please be advised that because HANAYOME specializes in female bridal kimono, we do not offer services for male-only couples, but we will happily accommodate trans, lesbian, and bisexual customers.
- If you are in need of Plus or Tall sizes, please consult. There may be an additional fee for acquiring extra materials for you.
- A consultation to pick out your wedding kimono prior to the photoshoot is important to prepare for the photoshoot, and you will receive one free consultation with your reservation. If you require additional consults, a fee will be charged for each time of 5,000 yen (tax included). If you live far away and cannot have a consultation, you may contact us online and choose two possible outfits prior to the photoshoot, then finalize one selection on the day of the shoot after your arrival.
- Cancellation fees will be charged based on how long before the date set that you contact us. 2-7 days prior is 50%, the day before 80%, and same-day cancellation will be 100%.
- You will be expected to pay upfront for our services.
- New Year holidays are very important in Japan, so we will not be able to accommodate requests during that period.
- If you purchased a Basic Plan but wish to have all 30 digital photos instead, there will be an additional fee of 15,000 yen (tax included).
- NOTE: Due to the differences between male and female wedding kimonos, the cost of the Couple Plan varies depending on which type of kimono you need, so if you are a same-sex couple please keep this in mind. Please consult if you have any further questions.
