The Ikazaki district of Uchiko is renowned for its long tradition of washi paper production and for the famous Ikazaki Giant Kite Battle, a spectacular event held every year on May 5 with over 400 years of history.
Ikazaki kites are crafted from traditional Japanese paper and bamboo, featuring distinctive hand-painted kite lettering. This unique design style leaves the bold characters unpainted while adding color around them, creating both visual impact and a lighter kite.
In this hands-on experience, you can create your own traditional Ikazaki kite as a memorable souvenir of your visit.
