2026.9.11Event: Uchiko Moon Viewing Festival (September 25–26, 2026)
Experience a traditional autumn evening in Uchiko at the Yokaichi & Gokoku Moon Viewing Festival.
For two evenings, the historic streets of the Yokaichi & Gokoku district are softly illuminated by lanterns, creating a special setting for enjoying the autumn moon. Stroll through the old townscape while discovering traditional music, performing arts, washi exhibitions, and other cultural events along the way.

Traffic Restrictions
6:30 PM–9:00 PM on both days
Vehicles are not permitted within the historic preservation district during this time.
Parking
Gokoku Machinami Parking Lot
Free from 5:00 PM during the festival. Parking is limited and congestion may occur.
Festival Highlights
Throughout the evening, hanging lanterns, standing lanterns, and handmade bamboo lanterns illuminate the historic streets.
Visitors can also enjoy:
- Traditional koto performances inside historic townhouses
- Uchiko Kyogen performances (traditional Japanese comic theater) at the Kamihaga Residence (~6:30 PM)
- Traditional Hazetori song and dance on September 26
- Gilded washi and handmade washi exhibitions
- Haiku writing spots throughout the historic district
Moon Viewing Tea Room at Koshoji Temple
On September 25 only, nearby Koshoji Temple will open a special moon-viewing tea room. Enjoy shojin sweets while admiring the autumn moon in the peaceful surroundings of the temple.

Make your evening even more special by exploring Uchiko's lantern-lit streets in a yukata. A special yukata rental and dressing service will be available on both festival days, limited to two groups per day.

Dressing Times: 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM
Return: Between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM
Included: Yukata, obi, geta sandals, basket bag, and dressing

Advance reservations are required. Each time slot is limited to one group of 2–3 people.

Important Notes
Event details are subject to change, and some activities may be canceled in case of rain. The yukata rental service will not be available if the Moon Viewing Festival is canceled.
